Writers Veronica Roth, Marie Lu and Erin Morgenstern all landed movie deals for their debut novels.

Roth released Divergent in May; Morgenstern’s book The Night Circus is due out in September and Lu’s title Legend will hit bookstores in late November. Lu sold her book’s movie rights to CBS Films. Summit Entertainment snatched up the rights to Roth and Morgenstern’s novels.

According to Variety, Harry Potter film producer David Heyman is interested in The Night Circus film. Deadline reported that Twilight film producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are looking at Legend. All three authors made an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

Stan Lee, Yoshiki, & Todd McFarlane to Unveil ‘Blood Red Dragon’ Comic at Comic-Con 2011

The first issue of the comic book series Blood Red Dragon will be unveiled at Comic-Con International on Thursday, July 21st. This project features the collaborative efforts of Spider-Man comics creator Stan Lee, Japanese rock star Yoshiki (of the band X Japan), and Spawn comics creator Todd McFarlane.

GalleyCat reported back in October 201o when Lee and Yoshiki personally announced this project at New York Comic Con. Lee explained that the project would be a “motion comic,” which he described as “more than a comic, but less than an animated film. It’s somewhere in between.” The series is being published by Todd McFarlane Productions.

Here’s more from the release: “[The comic] focuses on the origin of an ancient and benevolent force, locked in an epic battle with the dark armies of Oblivion. Creative expression and destiny collide, as once in a generation an individual is born with the potential to unlock the awesome might of the Blood Red Dragon, thus channeling a power beyond comprehension and assuming the mantle of Earth’s protector.”

The Shack by William Paul Young Adapted for Stage

Readers have contributed hundreds of thousands of stories about how William Paul Young‘s The Shack has changed their lives. These stories inspired a live show called Stories from The Shack. It will debut at Seattle’s WaMu Theater on May 8th.

According to PR web, the show will mix “elements of Cirque du Soleil and Charlie Rose-like interviews.” Right now, the show has enough funding for its Seattle dates but they would like to travel to three other cities: San Diego, Boise, and Denver. They’re trying to raise $150,000 via Kickstarter within the next thirty days; so far they have $8,000.

Here’s more from the show’s Kickstarter page: “Now we’re taking the shack experience live through an awe inspiring synthesis of music, performance art, aerials, dance, interviews with William Paul Young, and songs from one of American Idol’s most popular stars, Danny Gokey. It will be one of the most awe inspiring shows you’ll ever see.”
