Juror B37 Will Not Write a Book

Juror B37 in the George Zimmerman trial will not write a book.

Martin Literary Management president Sharlene Martin posted a statement on Twitter on behalf of her former client. “The best direction for me to go is away from writing any sort of book,” wrote the anonymous juror.  Here is the statement:

I realize it was necessary for our jury to be sequestered in order to protest our verdict from unfair outside influence but that isolation shielded me from the depth of pain that exists among the general public over every aspect of this case. The potential book was always intended to be a respectful observation of the trial from my and my husband’s perspectives solely, and it was to be an observation that our “system” of justice can get so complicated that it creates a conflict with our “spirit” of justice. Now that I am returned to my family and society and general, I have realized that the best direction for me to go is away from writing any sort of book and return instead to my life before I was called to sit on this jury.

Daily News Reporter Shopping Book About Newtown Tragedy

New York Daily News reporter Matt Lysiak is shopping a book proposal about the unimaginable tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last year.

Yesterday Lysiak helped break a story that collected emails written by Adam Lanza’s mother before her son’s rampage in Newtown. Here’s more from the book proposal:

Far from being the random act of insanity most have portrayed, the shooting that shocked our nation was a meticulously well-thought out premeditated attack years in the making by a violent video-gamer so obsessed with “kills” that he was willing to go to any length to achieve the top score … Drawing on hundreds of interviews, thousands of pages of police files, psychologists, and going over a decade’s worth of emails from his mother to close friends that chronicled Lanza’s slow slide into mental illness, this book will be the first comprehensive account of the tragedy.

Kidnapping Survivor Jessica Buchanan Shopping a Book Proposal

Kidnapping survivor and humanitarian aid worker Jessica Buchanan is shopping a book proposal with Sharlene Martin of Martin Literary Management.

While working in Africa last October, Buchanan (pictured) was kidnapped by a band of armed Somalis. After more than 90 days of captivity, a team of Navy SEALS rescued Buchanan in January. The memoir will also contain letters that her husband Erik Landemalm wrote to his wife during her captivity. Here’s more from the book proposal:

Jessica and Erik, in this “dual memoir” will contrapuntally relate the events prior to the kidnapping and then the drama of Jessica’s efforts to stay alive and Erik’s efforts to bolster and support the hunt for her while he acted as liaison between the families at home, the FBI, professional hostage negotiators, and the US Government. The progression of the story will reveal the thoughts and feelings of this couple, desperate to return to one another and continue the lives they’d barely begun when the kidnappers struck. The violent and bloody rescue that freed the two captives gave Jessica a second chance at her young married life.

Raffaele Sollecito Signs with Martin Literary Management

Raffaele Sollecito, Amanda Knox‘s Italian boyfriend, has signed on with Seattle-based literary agency Martin Literary Management.

Like Knox, Sollecito was charged with the 2007 death of Meredith Kercher in Perguia, Italy, but the conviction was overturned earlier this year. Literary agent Sharlene Martin told GalleyCat, “I have consistently believed in the innocence of Raffaele Sollecito and Amanda Knox and it seemed to me from the beginning that it made no sense to think that these two were guilty of the tragic murder of Meredith Kercher.”

Martin is currently interviewing writers to work with Sollecito on his memoir. While Martin would not tell us which publishers she is talking to, she did say that her deal with Sollecito includes foreign rights too. “I believe this has potential to sell in many foreign language territories,” she said. “My wonderful foreign co-agent, Taryn Fagerness, will handle the foreign sales on behalf of MLM.”
