Who Could See Your eReader Information?

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has released a series of charts comparing privacy policies on various e-reading devices.

They asked an important question and found some unexpected answers: With whom can they share the information collected in non-aggregated form? As you can see by the chart above, Google, Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Sony could all potentially share information with law enforcement officials or civil litigants.

Sony May Bundle Harry Potter eBooks with eReaders

According to a report in The Register, the next generation of Sony eReaders may be bundled with the entire Harry Potter book series in October. Sony has not confirmed this partnership.

The report speculates that fans can also buy an eReader bundle that will include a letter from author J.K. Rowling, a subscription to the online community Pottermore and a special carrying case.

Here’s more from the article: “According to the sources, Sony is paying Rowling millions for early electronic rights to Potter, but rather than adding to her fortune, last estimated at £560m, she is handing the proceeds to a charity for children with learning disabilities. The package is being hailed as the ‘hero’ product – the biggest seller – for Christmas by some in the retail channel.” (via Publishers Lunch)
