Rick Riordan Hosts New York City Toga Party

Tomorrow children’s writer Rick Riordan will release the latest title in the Heroes of Olympus series, The Son of Neptune. Hyperion has ordered an initial printing of three million copies. In anticipation of the book, Riordan (pictured) and Disney Publishing hosted a pre-publication party.

Despite the rainy weather, New York City fans dressed up for the party in Greeley Square. The event included giveaway toga costume gear, posters, book marks and trading cards. The event featured a Q&A with Riordan , a signing session, a reading by actors playing Olympian Gods, trivia questions and a costume contest.

After the event, the novelist shared some writing advice and his views on standardized testing. Read the interview below…

What Is Your Most Anticipated Book This Year?

The Millions collected a list of 66 highly anticipated new titles coming out in the second half of 2011. The listed included George R.R. Martin with A Dance with Dragons in July, Haruki Murakami with 1Q84 in October and Stephen King with 11/22/63 in November.

Here’s more from the article: “But, even as fans look forward to books from these favorites, there will undoubtedly be many new discoveries in the coming months as well, some of which, hopefully, we can introduce you to today. The list that follows isn’t exhaustive — no list could be — but these are some of the books we’re looking forward to.”

The list excluded forthcoming children’s and YA books. In the coming months we will see Every Thing On It by Shel Silverstein (September), The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan (October)  and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney (November). What titles are you looking forward to in the second half of 2011?

Rick Riordan Shares Secrets About Next Percy Jackson Book

Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan headlined a charity reading event with Maximum Ride author James Patterson last night. Riordan revealed secrets from the next installment of the The Heroes of Olympus series, The Son of Neptune.

Percy Jackson will definitely be back, along with Tyson the Cyclops, Grover Underwood, three new demigods, and a bulletproof elephant. He added: “there are other reasons besides Percy that the book is called The Son of Neptune.”
