The Broadway adaptation was nominated for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score (Tim Minchin wrote the music and lyrics). In addition, Bertie Carvel was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Lauren Ward was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role. Next year, Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company will bring Matilda the Musical to Broadway in New York City. According to United Press International, the UK production of the musical “continues to play to sold-out houses.”
