Housing Works Auctions Signed Copies of Tyra Banks’ ‘Modelland’

Housing Works will auction two autographed copies of supermodel Tyra Banks‘ YA title Modelland. Follow this link to place your bid.

Each book (pictured, via) contains a personalized message for “Mary Kate” and “Ashley.” The bookstore speculates that the copies were intended for celebrities Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen. Bidding has started at $100. The nonprofit bookstore’s auction ends on Friday the 13th at 10 p.m.

Here’s more about the auction: “Tyra’s notes are different. Ashley’s ends ‘smile’ [update: or is that 'smize'?] and MK’s ends ‘stay fierce and fabulous.’ Also, from the two pages I read Modelland is like America’s Next Top Model meets Hunger Games. The pair can be yours!”

Should Tyra Banks Review Books in a Post-Oprah World?

Plenty of celebrities–from Kristen Bell to Elizabeth Banks–have tweeted about Suzanne CollinsHunger Games trilogy. But, not all of them have their very own talk show. That’s what sets Tyra Banks apart from all the rest. You can read Banks’ Twitter book review in the image embedded above: “Soooooo good!!!”

Shelf Life poked fun at the review: “That is especially impressive, since six o’s and three exclamation points is the highest possible score in Tyra’s rating system. (By comparison, she thought Twilight was ‘Soooo good!!’ and she broke with critical consensus by only giving the new Franzen a tepid ‘Soo good!’)”

Oprah Winfrey chose Jonathan Franzen‘s Freedom as this year’s book club pick. Could Banks review books in a post-Oprah world?  Some feel that with or without Oprah, publishing will go on.

Tyra Banks Lands Book Deal for YA Series “Modelland”

tyra.jpgModel and television host Tyra Banks (pictured, via) has followed a new celebrity trend, landing a three-book deal with Delacorte Press for a YA fantasy series entitled Modelland.

According to Variety, the deal was negotiated by Bankable Enterprises, the company behind Banks’ popular show, America’s Next Top Model. The book is scheduled for a summer 2011 release. In recent months, everybody from Hilary Duff to Harlan Coben have decided to write for this hot genre.

Here’s more about the deal: “In a concept that marries Top Model and Harry Potter, Modelland centers on a teen who manages to get into an exclusive academy for ‘Intoxibel las’ — who are the most exceptional models known to humankind and harbor unknown powers. Once there, she finds herself competing to be accepted as part of that world.”
