That Lady’s Imagination Was Very Rapid
An alert GalleyCat reader emailed us about the recent coverage of Quirk‘s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with a reminder that, nearly a year ago, we’d told you about YA author Maureen Johnson (right) and her call for the zombification of classic literature, at which time she had provided readers with no small improvement upon Jane Austen:
“The zombie, confounded by recent events, tired of the chase for Elizabeth. He instead ripped off the head of the nearby Sir Watkin Smiley-Franklin and commenced in the eating of his brain, which pleased Mr. Darcy even more. Sir Watkin was a terrible bore on the subject of farm taxes, and Mr. Darcy was much relieved to see all of his thoughts on the subject being consumed by the zombie’s loose, grinding jaw.”
We’re mortified that we hadn’t remembered such a vivid passage. How despicably have we acted! We, who have prided ourselves on our discernment! We, who have valued ourselves on our abilities!
