The TWBG Shuffle: Shakin' at the Time Inc. HopSo what does Time, Inc.'s massive reorganization -- including over 100 layoffs effective December 31 -- mean for the trade publishing section? Here's a rundown: David Young, TWBG's new boss (replacing Larry Kirshbaum, who's gone and created his own literary agency, LJK Literary) now reports to 52-year-old executive vice president Michael Klingensmith, who also adds oversight of information technology and Synapse (He'll also continue to oversee Legal, Strategic Planning, Production, Administrative Services and Grupo Editorial Expansion.) This is instead of reporting directly to Nora McAniff and John Squires, appointed by CEO Anne Moore as the division's first co-chief operating officers. So on the face of it, I wonder just how much attention TWBG's really going to get, since the overall boss is looking after several somewhat disparate sections. Or will Klingensmith decide to leave well enough alone and let Young handle all the big decisions on his own? Ah, corporate management...that's why publishing's just like every other business now.
