Gossip Lit doesn't work outside of New YorkOddly enough, that isn't the conclusion reached by the Wall Street Journal in crunching numbers comparing three recent releases - Bridget Harrison's memoir TABLOID LOVE and Deborah Schoeneman and Ian Spiegelman's respective novels, 4% FAMOUS and WELCOME TO YESTERDAY - it probably should have been. More to the point, as Lily Oei discovers (no link available, alas, due to idiotic java pop-up tendencies), sales of those books pale in comparison to Jeannette Walls' memoir THE GLASS CASTLE, which sold 207,000 hardcover units and 74,000 paperback units as reported by Neilsen Bookscan. But it would have been much more interesting to know exactly where sales were highest, and whether the majority of TABLOID LOVE's 3,500 copies, 4% FAMOUS's 3,000 copies and WELCOME TO YESTERDAY'S measly 600 copies were sold in and around the 212...
