Book reviewer Colleen Mondor calls our attention to Books2Prisoners, a New Orleans organization that is expanding its service of delivering books to the incarcerated by reaching out to juvenile detention centers in the area. But, as you can imagine, much of their inventory was destroyed last year in the flooding after Hurricane Katrina, so Mondor suggests that her book reviewing colleagues should donate their ARCs and review copies to help create libraries for four of the city's juvenile facilities. "They are looking for books from the middle grade reading level and up, primarily dealing with multi-cultural themes and characters," Mondor advises, but any contributions will be welcome. "Please understand that this is not a momentary thing we are doing—these kids are in serious trouble and if the one thing we can do for them that might make a positive difference is send some books, then you can bet we need to keep doing it for months and months and years and years to come."
