IBM Sues Amazon Over E-Commerce PatentsThe AP's Brian Bergstein filed a report last night about IBM's patent infringement suit against Amazon.com, a dispute in which the technology firm claims they developed technologies back in the '80s which "govern how [Amazon] recommends products to customers, serves up advertising and stores data. Over at the Wall Street Journal, Charles Forelle and Suein Hwang got their version of the story ready for this morning's edition, which distinguishes itself from the AP account with a note on IBM's "thin line on intellectual property." On the other hand, Bergstein explains why a New York-based technology firm is suing a Seattle-based online vendor in a federal court in Texas: "Districts there move quickly and are perceived as relatively responsive to intellectual-property claims." Steve Lohr's NYT piece on the suit echoes that data, adding that the courts are also known "for often awarding large settlements to plaintiffs." Email This Post |
