Why You Should Keep Writing Despite Rejection
Most writers have a few unpublished manuscripts in their closet, but a little rejection didn’t stop them from writing again.
Today’s guest on the Morning Media Menu was Shani Petroff, author of the young adult series, Bedeviled. Her four-book series asks a simple question: What if you were a teenager, and your father was the Devil? Petroff explained how she broke into the young adult publishing market, a field currently crowded with vampires. ![]()
Here’s the surprising story behind Petroff’s book, a lesson for all writers: “Basically, I had written something else and I was waiting for feedback from somebody. In the meantime, I was like, ‘what am I going to do with myself while I’m waiting for feedback?’ That’s when I started writing ‘Bedeviled.’ Luckily, I did that, because that was the one that really took off–but it was just because I wanted something to do while I was waiting for a response. I just started writing some more.”
