Poet Will ‘Da Real One’ Bell was murdered in Miami this weekend. A gunman killed the poet outside his business, Literary Café and Poetry Lounge.
The 47-year-old poet had appeared on Def Poetry Jam and performed around the country. Above, we’ve embedded a video of Bell reading his poem, “So I Run” (contains some mature language near the end of the video).
Miami artist Addonis Parker had this tribute: “What made him different is the element that he came out of, and what he made of his misfortunes. He turned his unfortunate events into gold … The stuff he said, everybody was electrified every time he opened his mouth because you could relate to it.” (Via Ed Champion)
