World Book Night (WBN) is partnering with Dover Books to publish a special WBN edition of Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northrup.
This memoir will be distributed to participating bookstores and libraries on April 23, 2014. The critically-acclaimed film adaptation based on this book has received nine Academy Award nominations.
Executive director Carl Lennertz had this statement in the press release: “With the attention brought to this important book by the award-winning movie, we felt that we should make it available as part of World Book Night’s mission. One third of our half million free books each year go into underfunded rural and urban high schools, and when Dover Publications offered to work with us on this, we jumped at the chance.”
