Health Insurance in New York
Living without health insurance is a cause for constant stress and worry, especially for freelancers. For more than seven years mediabistro.com has partnered with Total Capital Planning (TCP) to offer health insurance to our AvantGuild members. In the past, a 'freelancer' needed to be part of a larger organization (like IRBA) in order to qualify for a rate lower than those offered to individuals. Now, AvantGuild members (and all other eligible freelancers in NY) can select one of four plans being offered by Oxford Health Plans in addition to the six plans offered through IRBA with HIP and GHI, and multiple plans through multiple carriers from HealthyNY..
Who's Eligible? If you are a freelancer or sole proprietor who reports the majority of your income on a Schedule C (you receive 1099's & file a Schedule C).
The Oxford plans require that the majority of your income be untaxed income reported on a Schedule C, E, or F, but there is no minimum income requirement
The Atlantis plans require $15,000 Gross Income on the Schedule C
The HIP & GHI plans require approximately $10,000 Gross Income on the Schedule C - subject to Underwriters discretion.
