This position is responsible for conducting public relations initiatives on behalf of
UJA-Federation of New York. An integral member of the Marketing and Communications Department, this professional should have excellent writing and computer skills, the necessary background in media relations, experience in dealing with the press, and the ability to work with numerous clients. The ability to multitask multiple assignments and work on multiple deadlines is essential, and experience in new media is desirable. Duties include public relations, corporate communications, and writing for publications; media relations and event publicity; managing the obituary process; creating a variety of public relations reports; tracking media; and analysis.
Major Responsibilities
- Assist with a variety of internal and external communications
- Write, distribute, and follow up on press releases, event listings, media advisories, and media pitches
- Write features and stories for distribution to media
- Manage a diverse portfolio of accounts, assist at events and commission conferences, and accommodate press in attendance
- Be liaison with internal staff, key volunteers, agency staff, and the media
- Manage around-the-clock obituary process, from research and writing to publication
- Monitor and track press coverage, generating various media reports
Qualifications
- Minimum two years previous work experience
- College degree, with a degree in a related field a plus
- Excellent organization skills, with the ability to write, edit, and proofread communications and public relations materials
- Ability to write clear, persuasive, informative copy targeted to a variety of audiences; speechwriting a plus
- Media relations experience, including ability to convey specific and various messages to print, electronic, and new media markets
- Proven experience in conducting interviews and conducting research for writing projects
- Demonstrated ability to meet strict writing deadlines with excellent work
- Excellent computer skills and ability to learn computer programs easily and quickly; familiarity with Excel desirable
- Excellent multitasking skills, including the ability to prioritize, strategize, and publicize numerous events simultaneously along with an assortment of communications projects
- Knowledge of the New York Jewish community and issues facing the Jewish community, Jewish history and traditions, and current affairs in Israel a plus
