Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager, Strategic Communications will be a member of the External Affairs department and support its effort to raise Aeras' profile and build a case for TB vaccine R&D support among key audiences using digital, social and traditional media. The incumbent will develop and dissemination key messages through a variety of creative and traditional avenues including the production and placement of commentary (Op Eds, blogs, letters-to-the-editor); media cultivation and outreach (interviews, desk side briefings, press releases development and distribution, press conferences) and the development of marketing materials including publications, fact sheets and website content, with guidance from the Director of Communications and with input from other staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist in the development of Aeras communications and content strategy
- Lead content creation and curation and develop and implement dissemination plans
- Work across the External Affairs team to develop a regular cadence of published material including Op Eds, statements, blogs and letters-to-the-editor representing the Aeras voice and partner voices.
- Develop and implement a digital web communications strategy and implementation (web, social).
Lead communications and micro campaigns in key target countries.
- Contribute to the development and distribution of multimedia and published materials including the Aeras blog, website, annual report, fact sheets and brochures for print and electronic distribution.
- Develop and implement a media cultivation plan that includes traditional print and broadcast media as well as social media and multimedia to raise awareness of Aeras, its partners and TB vaccines in donor and field site countries.
- Establish and maintain trusted and effective relationships with media, including top tier reporters in health and science, global health and general media, where applicable
- Track organizational and scientific milestones across Aeras departments to draft press releases, announcements and statements
- Organize press briefings.
- Track and analyze media coverage of TB vaccines, Aeras and key Aeras stakeholders for internal distribution
- Other duties in communications, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

- Possess keen understanding of what makes "news" for web, print and broadcast journalists.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications or Public Affairs, or experience in global public health or related scientific field with an emphasis on communications
- 7-10 years' experience in communications and media relations, including writing and editing, media relations, and publications.
- Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
- Experience interacting with media/members of the press and track record of securing media placements.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience with international outlets, including in developing countries, preferred.
- Familiarity with global health issues and/or scientific research desired.
- Willingness to travel internationally as needed.
