Job Requirements Smithsonian Digital Enterprises seeks an experienced Digital Media Designer in our Washington DC office. The Smithsonian Digital Enterprises team provides services to all Smithsonian Enterprises (SE) divisions in the development and operation of digital properties such as Web sites and tablet apps. The Digital Media Designer will work on projects that include designing the monthly enhanced digital version of Smithsonian magazine, designing other app projects, Web design, and other digital media designs as needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Design the monthly version of the enhanced digital edition of Smithsonian magazine app for tablets, including interactive elements.
• Design Web pages for SE Web sites.
• Design microsites, interactive, widgets, and other digital offerings.
• Design promotional materials for digital initiatives.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline from a four-year college or university.

• At least five years’ experience in Digital Media design.
• High proficiency in InDesign app-building tools for creating digital app for tablets.
• Experience in HTML4, CSS, and designing/building interactive content for digital media in multiple platforms (Web, tablet).
• Proficient in HTML 5, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop.
• Experience and talent working both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to be flexible during times of change, shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
• Ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
• Strong written, verbal communications and inter-personal skills.
• Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies and tools.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in multiple concurrent efforts.

Salary: $61k - $81k annually, depending on experience.
