Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in graphic design, communications, multimedia, public relations, marketing, or journalism with a minimum of three years of experience OR
• Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in unrelated field with a minimum of five years’ experience in the design or communications field
• Demonstrated project management experience
• Experience in graphic design, both digital and print
• Demonstrated working knowledge of industry software including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master of Science/Art degree preferred and can be substituted for two years of professional experience
• Experience in higher education
• Experience with file pre-flight and print shop processes
• Experience with social media and producing content for digital signs
• Experience in supervision and evaluation of staff
• Experience managing vendor relationships
• Basic web design/development experience, including content management systems and portal systems
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Comfort with public speaking and engaging a diverse public to include students, faculty, staff, and campus/community partners
• Commitment to diversity, social justice, and sustainability

Responsibilities:
• Serve as primary project manager for the Communications Office and coordinate publications, multimedia, and other communications projects from conception through delivery including design, content, budget, branding, timeline, editing, prepress, and printing and/or digital launch
• Manage the Creative Team; supervise professional staff and student interns, manage the project calendar, and work as a member of the office leadership team to set priorities, balance budgets, and meet strategic goals
• Ensure proper implementation of University and department graphic standards and branding guidelines; serve as primary liaison to licensed vendors
• Serve as a graphic designer for both print and digital formats across a wide array of projects
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Communications to develop strategic marketing and public relations campaigns to meet departmental communications objectives
• Provide research, writing, and editing for publications, press releases, Web pages, newsletters, informational campaigns, and other official communications
• Assist the Director of Communications with media relations and serve as the back-up on call staff member for crisis communication and after-hours emergencies
• Represent the Director of Communications at management meetings and committees in the director’s absence
• Collaborate with team to coordinate and staff special events and other programs
• Provide basic website updates and content
• Incorporate sustainability initiatives in support of the Housing & Dining Service’s mission
• Understand and incorporate concepts of diversity and social justice into projects, events, and programs
• Participate in continuing education activities that enhance professional knowledge and technical skills

Other/Administrative Duties:
• Participate in drafting budgets, goals, and timelines
• Participate in staff and interdepartmental meetings
• Serve on appropriate University committees
• Assist with new projects and varied duties as assigned; some events and programs do occur on evenings and weekends
About Our Company Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado and has an enrollment of 26,000 students. Housing & Dining Services is the largest department on campus with 400 full-time staff and 1,100 student and hourly staff. The department houses 6,500 students and oversees campus residence halls, apartments, residential dining services, conference services, and Pingree Park, Colorado State's mountain campus.

The Assistant Director of Communications reports to the Director of Communications & Sustainability and is part of a dynamic, integrated communications team for Housing & Dining Services. The team manages graphic design, multimedia (web, social media, digital signs, etc.), public relations, media relations, marketing, and special events. The Assistant Director of Communications leads and supervises the Creative Team in the office, including both professional staff and student interns. The Creative Team is responsible for the design and coordination of all digital and print media for the department as well as the design and oversight of marketing and public relations campaigns.

The position manages more than 200 projects a year and candidates should have demonstrated experience managing projects independently and also as part of an integrated team. This position also serves as a graphic designer for the department and candidates should possess both print and digital graphic design experience.

Salary Range:
The salary range is mid $40's annual compensation, commensurate with experience and education. This position is eligible for all benefits available to full-time professionals at Colorado State University.
