Job Requirements The Cato Institute seeks a Director of Media Relations who can provide leadership to a talented and growing department. The candidate oversees the media outreach staff, with primary responsibility for promotion of Cato scholars to the top U.S-based print and online media outlets as well as select international publications. This position also has oversight of op-ed editing and placement, in coordination with the Media Relations Manager. Other responsibilities include:

-Strategic planning of daily media outreach activities and distribution of Cato products to media
-Oversight of media contact list maintenance
-Assisting with media and message training for Cato scholars

The candidate must have 5 – 8 years work experience at a nonprofit, government or association marketing or public relations office, a comprehensive understanding of how the U.S news media operates, and a proven ability to promote policy issues and experts to the news media. Must be able to manage and inspire staff. Solid writing and editorial skills and knowledge of public policy are essential.
