Disney Consumer Products (DCP) is the business segment of The Walt Disney Company that extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys, home decor and books to interactive games, food and beverages, stationery, electronics and animation art.
The Senior Editor will report to the Editorial Director of Disney-Hyperion. Scope of work includes full editorial responsibility on 9-12 titles per year. Additional duties include liaising with design, production, and managing editorial departments as well as maintaining a relationship and fostering information sharing with the marketing, publicity, and sales teams.
Acquire, edit, and manage 9-12 titles a year, a mix of middle grade and young adult fiction
Negotiate contracts with agents
Present titles at acquisition and launch meetings
Brainstorm and execute in-house intellectual property
Collaborate with copyediting, design, marketing, publicity, and sales departments
Have solid relationships with authors/illustrators and are visible to key agents
Mentor, review work and supervise an Editorial Assistant
• Excellent editorial judgment • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities along with careful attention to detail • Strong oral and written communication skills • Familiarity with current marketplace and publishing trends • Familiarity with such office software as Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Adobe
• BA/BS plus 7 years related work experience • Minimum three years experience in publishing fiction for young readers
