Job Requirements The American Associate for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) seeks a Junior Graphic Designer to join our creative marketing team for Science magazine. The incumbent must have strong communication and technical skills, excellent type sensibility, and the ability to create effective, visually exciting print and electronic media.

Major duties and responsibilities:

• Conceptualizes, designs, and produces art copy layouts to be presented for both print and digital advertisements for a range of sales and membership marketing related activities. Advertisement vehicles include email, digital display, microsites, video, social media, print ads, brochures and more
• Interacts with clients and/or co-workers to resolve design related issues
• Operates desktop publishing system to produce page proofs and reproduction masters
• Lays out pages and prepares artwork suitable for reproduction

Minimum requirements:

• Extensive university or college level training leading to a Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, fine arts, web design, or a related field
• Two to five years of commercial design experience leveraging multiple mediums. Recent graduates will be considered based on strength of portfolio
• Strong knowledge of programming languages including HTML, XHTML and HTML5; CSS and CSS3; Responsive designs and Media Query; JavaScript/AJAX and JavaScript libraries: jQuery and jQuery UI
• Expert proficiency in theming CMS, blog, and publishing platforms, Drupal and WordPress
• Experienced in print layout and design using Adobe Creative Suite for building collateral materials such as brochures, direct mail, presentation folders, signage, etc.
• Thorough understanding of printing process for setting up camera-ready printer files
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at once
