Job Requirements • Design degree BFA or equivalent
• Significant work experience in book cover design specifically.
• A portfolio demonstrating the highest level of book cover design skills with an emphasis on strong typography.
• Proven ability to multitask, manage varied workflows.
• Experience in working with authors, editors, and other key internal stakeholders. The abililty to represent Design in internal discussions a must.
• Proficiency in all Adobe Creative Suite applications is a must.
• Experience with 4C prepress and print production essential.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) also very important
About Our Company Oxford University Press seeks a Senior Designer for book covers in the Trade and Academic line.

Candidates must have a portfolio demonstrating excellent typographic skill and strong book cover design samples. Candidates that are interviewed will need to bring a portfolio or sample covers to the meeting. Trade covers are an important marketing tool for Oxford University Press, and we are seeking a designer with the experience and talent to deliver at the highest level in this marketplace.

The Senior Designer (SD) supports GAB Design’s core areas and approach which is creative, collaborative, and strategic. The SD is a semi-independent actor who produces design work based on production schedule or other business requirements: interpreting design briefs; executing against design strategy; assigning work to freelancers; finalizing all production through to final stage. The SD is a proactive independent problem solver, with the ability to work with little input from the AD / CD. Schedule and budget management is critical to the success of this role. This position interacts with all aspects of publishing team (including Editorial, Marketing, Production) and must do so in a thoughtful and professional way, creating consensus and developing solutions. The ability to multitask is essential. The SD must possess the highest level of conceptual design skill with the ability to interpret diverse and often complex subject matter into strong solutions.

This position will be responsible for approximately 100+ titles per year which includes management of freelance assets, mentoring in-house staff, and providing support to other publishing lines as seasonal workload fluctuates.
