What’s the latest thing you’ve worked on?

I just had a Korean War vet come into the office with a $100,000 toilet seat, or so he says. It’s encrusted with diamonds and gold flakes. He got it, basically, from the trash and repaired it with a pair of $2 white hinges. He had it listed on eBay for $60k but didn’t get any takers.
What has been your most difficult project and how did you deal with its challenges?
I’m writing a book about being a guy who leaves New York for Nevada and marries a hooker. The hardest part about writing the book, so far, was actually being married to the hooker.
What’s the best or most helpful thing that you’ve learned about writing, editing or publishing?
Don’t burn your bridges if you can help it.
What’s the worst writing or editing advice you’ve ever gotten?
Somebody once suggested I read a Dave Eggers book.
How do you make time to work at your day job, write for alt weeklies and on your book?
Not drugs, if that’s what you’re getting at.
And some more information about Peter, if you’re interested, in his own words: “I am the GA reporter here at the Nevada Appeal in CC, according to E&P, the fastest growing paper in the nation. I also write extensively about vices of all stripes for various alt-weeklies. I moved here from Brooklyn 3 years ago to marry a prostitute at one of NV’s legal brothels. I am writing a book about it. My agent is Caroline Greeven at Agency House. I am a Cancer and June 23 is my birthday.”
