Writing something for the New York Times? Better double-check that word count. According to the New York Observer, to combat “flabby” writing, and oh, also, maybe just because of budget issues as well, “any story over 1,800 words must be approved by one of a trio of high-ranking editors before it’s allowed into the paper.”
