Unsolicited: Some Gentle Advice for Editors

Not to be outdone, many authors wrote in to the anonymous literary editor at Gawker who submitted some tips for writers on how to behave with their editors. So gamely, he/she presents advice right back for editors on how to treat the editors:

"DON'T lie to me. DON'T lie to me. DON'T lie to me."

This author is right -- editors shouldn't lie to authors, but sometimes we're forced to. Sometimes we're just trying not to hurt their feelings. And sometimes we're being loyal to our higher-ups, whose decisions we are paid to carry out. We aren't independently wealthy either, okay?

We just want to be heard, that's all. More here.
