Bulletin Board Blab 2.23.05

whisperd.bmpSee that adorable fawn whispiering into that other adorable fawn’s ear? They’re not talking about “Bambi.” They’re talking about the information they read about the Deep Throat Story on the Mediabistro Bulletin Board. Honest. You could find something useful or interesting there too:
Is it enough that you graduated with flying colors from the School of Life? You might have to go back and get that degree. Especially for my mom, who gets sad when she hears people haven’t finished their college careers. Weird.
Do former freelancers have a shot at landing full-time staffing jobs? Perhaps. You have to prove your worth and that you’re ready to work for somebody other than yourself.
How about pitching two similar stories to different publications, using pseudonyms? Sounds a bit shady, no? Opt for noncompeting pubs instead.
“An interviewee told my editor it was unethical to have me, an out-of-state writer, freelancing for the publication. What do I do?” Find interviewees who aren’t dopes.
Attention editors: Be more polite, please, to potential employers when you make them bust their butts on grueling editing tests.
Life behind the HR curtain.
How do you make yourself a more appealing candidate? Per the suggestions, network and find yourself some great clips. My advice: check your college alumni directory for a graduate the field you’re interested in, kindly contact them and ask them if they will trade you some advice for some coffee and a muffin. They might point something out to you that you didn’t already know or tell you what makes a resume sparkle.
