Bulletin Board Blab 3.16.05

raise.bmpMy, everybody has something to say today on the bulletin boards!
What’s funny ha-ha versus funny strange versus funny-I’ll-kill you? Dylan Stableford leads a discussion on what is appropriate in humor.
Lady op-ed writers are hot in the news right now. Here’s what people on the boards have to say.
What are some sources for business writers?

Can you send an editor more than one idea in a query?
Sure, but make sure they’re GOOD ideas and that each pitch is well-written. Don’t send a laundry list and force the editor to guide you on how to write it for them.
What do you do when a source is mad that you didn’t quote them more? You say, “Too bad.” Actually, maybe you should just think that while you pass the buck or stay noncommittal. Sources may have a say in how little you quote them, but not how much.
Stuff on grants for writers.
Some thoughts on keeping your clips nice and purty.

Can you freelance while you’re on staff?
Check with your boss. You might be able to for some pubs, not for others.

Fact-checkers vs. writers vs. reporters.
How many errors to get you kicked to the curb?
How to be Canadian and get hired, eh?
