Bulleting Board Blab 2.16.05
They’re talking about helpful things on those bulletin boards:
Is it possible for a reporter to make the switch from a daily to TV? Sure, as long as you’re not ugly. Wait, that’s not what I mean. I mean sure, as long as you’re flexible and are willing to take a possible paycut and perhaps re-work your way up.
Freelance insurance questions, a perennial favorite. Board posters recommend checking out the Avantguild as well as ehealthinsurance, the Authors Guild and this article. Do your research! Insurance for freelancers will not be the same across the boards. It depends mightily on your age, health, location etc. so do some homework.
If it’s cheap and relatively easy, just go for it. If you’re applying for a job and want editors to think that you live in the area, buying a PO box or switching cell-phone numbers is a cinch.
Is the Freelance Marketplace worth it? And what are those lemons? Some writers say yes, others say they didn’t get a bite so if you’re intersted in investing, a monthly membership might be better. And if you’re in doubt, if possible, talk to the people who have left testimonials. They might have more insight than you know. And the lemons? Nobody really knows.
