Cafe Society

J.K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book in a cafe, to get a break from her apartment. I have a great office at home, but I need a change of scenery some days. The problem is that cafes get noisy, there’s sometimes pressure to keep buying coffee to pay rent for your table, and what if you don’t drink coffee?
A handful of entrepreneurs have opened writing studios, that provide quite places to plug in a laptop and get to work. Jill Pollack, the proprietor of StoryStudio Chicago, says that no directory of these places exists. Well, let’s create one! MBToolbox readers, send me information on writers studios in your community, and we’ll put the list together. My email is annielogue@gmail.com. You may also nominate regular cafes, but they have to be really good.
