newbie.jpgQ: If I’m new to journalism and my resume reflects that, is there a way to make my resume more appealing?
A: Short of making up stuff? Just make your resume the best it can be. I got some for instances from an editor I spoke with:
“Always have a regular email address. The amount of resumes I’ve auto-deleted with squiggylittle@aol.com, prsweetie19@hotmail.com, or
lilbiyatch@yahoo.com is incredible. I don’t even open those up.
No cute fonts or colored paper, please.
One page. If President Clinton can fit his resume onto one page, so can you.”
Just be honest though, especially if you have good clips to back yourself up. “If you don’t have a lot of experience, don’t hide from it. Sometimes, people are looking for beginners who are untainted by outside influences and want to create their own talent.”
