How to Enjoy the Unfiltered, Smooth Flavor of the mb Job Board

smoker_small.jpgLike all technological creations, there is almost always a learning curve to understanding them. Today’s example is our job board. I often get emails from members who complain that there are no jobs listed when they go to the job board. Or sometime they only see a few. As of this post there were 1793 jobs on the old board. So what’s the dealio you ask? It’s all about filters. Whether it be cigarettes, or search engines, filtering can be confusing. Fortunately our kind won’t kill you.

On the mediabistro.com job board, you can have up to four different filters running at the same time. There’s a filter for Industry, Location, and Duration, and the fourth is the keyword search. So, if you were looking for a full-time magazine position in New York involving sports, there’s your four filters (in bold). Now let’s say the next day you decide you’re better suited for freelance work at newspapers in Chicago, and you’ve also decided food is more up your alley than sports. Since your filters get saved from your last session, it’s going to keep listing those New York sports jobs. So what’s the fix? Under each filter there’s a remove link. Click for each filter and voila! No more confusion. Another great way to search for jobs with multiple criteria is to create saved searches. That way you don’t need to manually remove and re-select search criteria; all you need to do is click on the search you saved, and the filters are automatically populated into the job board.
Oh, and kids…don’t smoke.
