How to Pitch: Orion

orion.jpgLike to mix nature writing with quality literature? “We do look at the world through what might be considered an ecological lens,” Orion executive editor Harlan Clifford tells Kristen Elde, “but with all due humility, we see our competition as Harper’s and The New Yorker-not Sierra or Audubon.” Readers tend to be “highly educated, literate, and open-minded, he explains, and although they tend toward the progressive end of the spectrum, Orion is non-partisan, characteristic of all non-profits.” Check out the front of book spots like Groundswell or Coda. Make sure you really know the publication before you pitch, though. Submit pitches via hard copy but expect long response times.
