How To Pitch: Playboy

playboy.jpgThe godfather of nudie magazines has plenty of room for freelancers crammed between rants, raves and exposed double Ds, says Noah Davis, in his update of this How-To-Pitch. Writers who are new to Playboy should focus on the magazine’s front section “After Hours.” This five-page collection of short items is a humorous take on “trends, news, jokes, coffee-table books, events and cultural curiosities.” Pay range is $150 to $500, depending on length and content. “This is a good way to get your toe in the door,” [editorial director Chris] Napolitano says, even though the “emphasis is on brevity.” Pitch by regular mail and follow up with a phone call.
