How to Pitch: Psychology Today

pyschtoday.jpgThis “cultural,” not “clinical,” magazine seeks unique ideas on all aspects of human behavior, writes Heather Marie Graham. PT articles usually fall into one of three categories: service, science, or cultural synthesis. Service pieces are typically intelligent self-help staples familiar to women’s-mag readers: How do I cope with a difficult boss? When should I end a relationship? But rather than simply doling out advice, PT analyzes and explains the underlying situation. At the same time, the magazine reports on current scientific and behavioral research: PT might publish a feature on a new theory about autism, or explain how a couple’s need for varying levels of stimulation and novelty can drive them apart. Insights, Final Analysis, Personality, Relationships, Solutions, and Health & Happiness are good sections to start with. Make sure your pitches are culturally relevant, however. Emailed pitches, please. More details here.
