How to Pitch: The Fader

thefader.jpgThe Fader debuted in 1999 with the goal of “showcasing emerging music across all genres” from around the world. Seven years later, a flip through its pages reveals the fruit of those efforts. As executive editor Alexandra Wagner puts it, “Very few music magazines attempt to cover the breadth of music that we do: giving equal space to hip-hop, indie rock, folk, grime, reggaeton, R&B and psych,” writes Noah Davis. While The Fader targets serious music fans ages 21-34, and “emerging musicians” get the majority of its coverage, the magazine’s staff isn’t averse to sprinkling a few stories about mainstream artists throughout each issue. Writers new to the magazine would do well to target the “Newsprint” and “Fieldnotes” sections, but make sure you know your subject matter inside and out. Submit short pitches via email.
