How to Pitch: Yachting

yacddhting.jpgEven though you may not have a yachting lifestyle, there’s still room for your byline in Yachting magazine. Executive editor Don Wallace is actively looking for story ideas and new writers for this slick, glossy title. Several sections in the magazine are freelancer-friendly. Before querying, advises Wallace, be sure to ask if your intended piece targets the right audience or at least focuses on a large or extraordinary yacht (not those run-of-the-mill ones.) “Peers,” “Currents,” “Destinations” and “Seamanship” are among the good areas to pitch. No cruise ship reviews. Pitch email if by land, message bottle if by sea. More info here.
Oh, and if you are looking for the How to Pitch guide to the Chicago Tribune Friday section from yesterday, it’s gone because the section is gone! So if you were working on a pitch for them, time to start angling it to some other publication.
