Aileen Gallagher speaks with Judith Riven, a "veteran agent sells cookbooks, parenting books, and is looking for those who can tackle issues with strong narratives." The agency is committed to working with authors to perfect their proposals and finding the right house for each book. "Riven sells cookbooks, health books, and parenting books. She is also interested in narrative non-fiction and political books. 'Policy books are something that publishers are responding to now,' she says. Riven is also interested in working with more journalists. 'There's so much going on in the world and the country that's not being addressed in an intelligent way. There are so many stories. People learn things from stories. I'd love to see well-thought-out approaches to these problems through stories. Journalists have access to that. They're working with that all the time.' Riven also works with some science non-fiction, as well as mysteries and thrillers that are character-driven." No sci-fi, fantasy or extreme violence.
