"The basic premise of Traveler is to explore the cutting edge of travel - from hot destinations both domestically and abroad to news-making personalities and trends around the globe - all with an Outside flair," writes Kyle du Ford, who notes that the publication is very freelance-friendly. "That means active travel, so there should be some aspect of exploration, adventure, or participation, not just sightseeing, which helps differentiate Traveler from titles like Travel and Leisure or Budget Travel. Traveler caters to a more up-market, affluent clientele than the parent title, as well." Great domestic stories are needed; unfocused pitches are not.
