How to Pitch: The New York Times City Section

nytcity.jpgYou've always wanted to write for the Times, haven't you? So here's another chance. Due to budget crunches, it's much more difficult for freelancers to break in, but it's still possible, writes Paula Orr. "Connie Rosenblum, editor of The City, describes it as a news magazine about New York. The section is known for its offbeat, un-Times-ian story subjects - a sense of fun can be found in The City that is missing from the rest of the paper. But while The City used to be a reliable entry point for freelancers, budget concerns now hamper those ambitions." It's a good be to try for "Neighborhood Reports": Just make sure that it's newsy. Don't bother with "First Person" or "FYI." Send concise pitches via email.
