I think the last thing that was this long-coming and anticipated to the city of Chicago was our first Krispy Kreme store. So it makes sense that Time Out Chicago presents a How to Pitch guide, before the debut issue even hits the shelves. For a long time the magazine was soliciting editors and writers and attempting to lure away some of the established contributors to some of the current publications in the city. But it'll be here soon, and you can contribute. Thus far advance word on working with the magazine is positive. "My editor's been good to work with, receptive to my pitches, and has taken everything I've pitched so far. They're sticklers about deadlines, and the pay isn't bad, but it isn't great," says one writer in the city who has already begun contributing to TOC. "It's not really that different from most other papers of that sort I've worked for." So if you've contributed to publications here like the Reader, NewCity or UR Chicago, the transition shouldn't be too difficult to Time Out. Time (Out, ha) will tell how it plans on differentiating itself from the current publications, but if you have a unique idea, spin or voice, that seems like a good way to start.
