Of course the ladies who wrote the book on celebrities (below) have a few tips on interviewing celebrities as well.

If you're going to write about celebrities and may want to interview them, here's what we learned:

1. Access
Find out who represents whom. In our book we list WhoRepresents as a service for finding the stars' agents. Also check out CAA and William Morris.

2. Creative
When writing an interview request letter make it interesting. Find something unusual or esoteric about the celebrity and in your letter let the agent or publicist know you want to write about the star's interest in horseback riding or charity work or knitting hobby. Be specific, unusual and different in your letter to make it stand out.

3. Follow up
Be persistent and follow up with your interview request letter. They get so many it's possible that it fell through the cracks.

4. No Means No
Unfortunately, no means no. The star may be away, overwhelmed, unavailable, or uninterested. Find a different route, story idea, or another celebrity who may be looking for just the right kind of publicity at that time.
