Morning News 1.24.05Some newsbits, including Editor of the Year, the fabulous, deadly, hysteria-worthy blizzard of '05, and Safire leaving some words of wisdom before he makes like a tree. You might be figuring out how to write a political column, but the outgoing William Safire gives you tips on how to read one. Julia Wallace of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has been named 'Editor of the Year' by Editor and Publisher. Give us a jingle if you've had the chance to work with her and let us know if she is indeed Editor of the Year and why you think so, or not. We will now stop referring to ourselves in the third person. Glamour do: What Jonathan Newhouse has done for Conde Nast abroad. What the media does to hype the blizzards (obviously not a good enough job, because our office is open.) By the way, this piece came from the New Jersey Star-Ledger, on the East Coast, where snow tends to be reported much more dramatically than it is here in Chicago. Speaking of snow, Boston Globe columnist David Nyhan dies after shoveling snow. Tasteless joke ahead: How many times does it have to be reinforced: if you're good at writing, you're probably bad at all things physical. Should blogs be held to journalistic ethical guidelines? (Uh, no. What would be the fun of that?) And finally, in human interest, the name "Yahoo" is still up for your child, if you're interested. |
