I highly recommend the conference, especially for those of you who freelance but have never done it full-time. Just the experience of being around so many accomplished writers is a huge education, let alone the opportunity to meet one-on-one with various editors. Plus, I made back my registration fee based on assignments I got from contacts I met at the conference. It's a goodie. I recommend it. Plus, our own Annie Logue is on the organizing committee, so you know it will be organized like a mutha.
