More on the Mighty Podcast
"Podcasting offers most people little revenue," says writer/blogger Imran Anwar, who posts approximatelyone podcast for every ten written blog posts. "It's good if you can get a topical podcast mentioned by other sources, but in the end, no matter what you're doing, podcasting takes time." Unlike regular blogging, which can be done as fast as you can type, any podcast, no matter how light or serious the topic, requires some setting up. (Unless you're audio blogging, which, in Imran's mind, is "not professional.") In addition, podcasting takes up more bandwidth than regular blogging. "My readers who are still on a dialup can't download my podcasts," says Imran. However, Imran enjoys podcasting as a means of expressing himself in a way that he can't on his blog. "I'm not trying to be NPR, but podcasting can be a great way to express an opinion. If you are blogging about something that involves a great deal of detail, it's probably better to be read on-screen. But if it's something that involves humor or drama, it lends itself very well to audio." Meanwhile, podcasting is getting easier to disseminate as well, says Imran, for those who do want to spread the word about their podcast, thanks to sources like Feedster. Email This Post |
