Testing the Limits and the Trials of TestingDavid S. Hirschman has written two pieces on where editors draw the line on freebies, and the ups and downs of testing products. First, where media companies draw the lines on keeping what's given: "The line can be a little harder to draw for freelancers who are testing items out of their homes, but Matt Schneiderman, who wrote "gadget" pieces at Stuff and at the newly-defunct Cargo, says that often tech manufacturers will loan their items out, and he would sign a loan agreement stating the terms." And then, on a related note, editors who test products can have a lot of fun, despite the occasional health risks. |
