Five Ways to Combat Eye Strain at Work

Happy pre-July 4th weekend! Although it’s getaway day for some, for others it’s another day at the office. As such, this piece is brought to you not only by your friends at MediaJobsDaily but by your eye doctor as well.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a few symptoms for eye strain include sore, tired, burning or itching eyes, water eyes, dry eyes or blurred or double vision, to name a few.

Here’s the thing: We don’t have to wait for symptoms to appear to take action. In most cases, preventing eye strain involves incorporating a few minor tweaks into your day.

1. Pay attention to your body. Eye strain may be coming on, per the Mayo Clinic, if you experience sudden eye neck or shoulder pain. Heed the warning.

2. Reduce glare. As in reduce the brightness on your monitor.

3. Clean the screen. Go ahead, clean it! Deleting dust actually reduces glare which in turn bestows kindness on your eyeballs.

4. Dim other lighting. Apparently the brighter the room, the harder your eyes have to work.

5.  Adjust your screen. Where shall it be located, you ask? It’s supposed to be directly in front of your face right below the level of your eyes.

6. Increase your font size. Your eyes have less work to do when the font is bigger.

7. Blink! That is all.

8. Look away. Every 20 minutes, focus on something 20 feet away and look at it for 20 seconds.
