Government Issues Monthly Job Report; December Reflects Solid Hiring

Here’s some good news to end our short holiday week on a bright note. According to the monthly jobs report, U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs last month.

That said, the unemployment rate from December was 7.8 percent whereas the rate for November was updated to 7.8 from the original claim of 7.7 percent.

As for specific hiring itself, it appears the numbers reflected the manufacturing and construction industries. This can be attributed to Hurricane Sandy as well as a boom in building homes. continued…

Latest Job Report Shows Decent Numbers

It’s that time of month again!

The jobs report for October was released and although pundits are saying it’ll have an impact in the election, we do know this: 171,000 new jobs were created and the unemployment rate is 7.9 percent.

As per CBS News, the report demonstrated job growth that was better than anticipated even though the unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point. continued…

Hurricane Sandy May Impact Monthly Jobs Report

Considering Hurricane Sandy has impacted about one-fifth of Americans, according to ABC News, U.S. economic losses could range between $35 and 45 billion!

And as it may impact job seekers who are sidelined from interviews or freelancers who get paid by the gig and can’t seem to gig it due to damage, according to the report, there could perhaps be a jolt in employment activity for rebuilding efforts.

Granted, this may not exactly be in media but it will likely be in construction, telecommunications, etc. continued…

Monthly Jobs Report Expected to Show Uptick

With only to days to go for the September job report, ADP is already saying the economy added 162,000 private sector jobs the past few weeks.

Most of the jobs come from companies with less than 500 employees and it sounds like it’s going to exceed expectations — economics anticipated the number was going to be closer to 150,000 new jobs.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics will release its official numbers this Friday but the ADP report references an increase of jobs ranging from 110,000 to 120,000.

New Jobs Report Shows Uptick in Jobs & Unemployment

Happy Friday, one and all!

We have good news and not-so-good news to share as a result of today’s job report. First, the good news: 163,000 jobs were added in July! As for the bad news? The unemployment rate increased from 8.2 to 8.3 percent.

According to the Labor Department, private employers added 172,000 jobs last month whereas the government cut 9,000, leaving a net total of 163,000.

Although the unemployment rate rose slightly, let’s look at the big picture, shall we? In October 2009 the rate was ten percent! So, we’re still recovering.

Maury Harris, chief U.S. economist for UBS, told USA Today, it’s kind of not a big deal. ”It went from 8.2% to 8.25%, and they rounded up to 8.3%.” Essentially, there’s little change from June.

Monthly Job Report Shows Weak Hiring; Unemployment Remains Unchanged at 8.2 Percent

There’s good news and bad news: The good? Well, it was a holiday week, hence staycations or vacations, it was time to rejoice!

And now the bad? The monthly jobs report was issued this morning and let’s just say things have remained pretty flat.

According to the Department of Labor data, employers added 80,000 jobs in June. This third consecutive month of weak hiring reflects the struggling economy.

Plus, the unemployment rate remained the same at 8.2 percent; keep in mind the addition of 80,000 jobs is actually an increase from the average of 75,000 jobs per month from April through June.

George Mokrzan, director of economics at Huntington National Bank in Ohio told Yahoo! Finance, “It’s a disappointing report.”

That’s pretty much all we have to say. Keep calm and carry on.

Economists Anticipate “Tepid” Monthly Job Reports Tomorrow

According to a report issued by ADP, businesses added 119,000 jobs during the month of April — not exactly great news since the jobs report will be released tomorrow. As reported by CNN Money, economists were anticipating growth of 170,000 jobs.

So, what does this mean with the soon-to-be-released monthly jobs report? There’s a slight slowdown since 201,00 jobs were added in March and 228,000 jobs were added in February, as per the same report.

Joel Prakken, Macroeconomic Advisers chairman, thinks it’s a lukewarm statistic. He told CNNMoney, “Those employment gains are not enough to get us back to full employment. I don’t consider this to be a good number. It’s tepid.”

CNNMoney anticipate the data tomorrow will reflect 160,000 additional jobs in April which represents 165,000 from the private sector minus approximately 5,000 government jobs. Assuming the number of people in the work force remains the same, the unemployment rate will likely not dip below the current rate of 8.2 percent, says the piece. Until the report is issued tomorrow, however, we won’t have exact numbers. Stay tuned…
