The Holiday We Forgot

Did you know that a month ago (Oct. 16) was National Bosses Day? Neither did we.

Buzz_Tweed.jpgAccording to Human Resource Executive Online, one possible reason for why few people celebrate the Hallmark-manufactured holiday* is because nobody likes their bosses. In fact, 53 percent of employees surveyed say their boss is dishonest; the same number say s/he is unfair. More than three quarters said their boss lacked motivational skills. Ouch! Experts indicated that for bosses to regain employees trust and support, they will need to be open, forthright, and honest.

*And now, some trivia: Hallmark didn’t invent National Boss Day. The holiday was created by a secretary in Deerfield, Illinois, who was working for her father. Legend goes that she’d forgotten his birthday, which was Oct. 16. Hallmark didn’t start selling a Boss Day card until 1979.
