There’s No Place Like the Office? Facebook Set to Build Cushy Housing Community Near Its Headquarters
Have you ever had one of those nights? You know, the clock strikes 10 p.m., then 11 and you’re still working on deadline only to secretly wish there was a mattress underneath your desk.
Well, if you work for Facebook you won’t have to go far to commute home. That is, per The Wall Street Journal, the social network announced it’s developing a 394-unit housing complex within walking distance of its Menlo Park, Calif. office.
We hear the apartment building complex nameed Anton Menlo will include a sports bar, doggy day care, on-site cafe, convenience store, bicycle repair shop, resort-inspired pool, spa and cabana area (really?!). Plus, there will be an indoor/outdoor wellness and yoga facility along with a training facility offering personal training.
Did we mention the rooftop entertainment deck with three different themed areas? (Keep in mind as we write this post, the plush offerings are making a freelancer’s sparse New York City office digs — and by that we mean a typical coffee shop — that much more lackluster.)
Yes, it sounds plush but we wonder if it will create workaholics living so close to home? Then again, it won’t impact their entire employee population. Per the piece Anton Menlo will only be able to house 10 percent of its nearby employees.
Interestingly enough, considering many tech companies offer office perks ranging from on-site massages to ping pong tables, it’s no surprise the housing community will likely reflect the corporate campus atmosphere. The Facebook “amenities team” apparently worked with St. Anton Partners, a multi-family real estate developer, to create the mirrored atmosphere to foster mingling and idea sharing.
